Name of the university

In the brand manual you will find the name of the university as well as its short names and the abbreviation as follows:

  • Name: "University of Kaiserslautern-Landau"
  • English name: "University of Kaiserslautern-Landau"
  • Short name: "RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau"
  • Abbreviation: "Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University"
  • Abbreviation: "RPTU"

When using the short name (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau) or the abbreviation (RPTU), please make sure that it is clear from the general context that RPTU is a university. Otherwise, please use the full name or otherwise ensure that at RPTU is clearly recognizable as a university.

Naming options in the English-speaking environment

The brand manual also specifies the name to be used in an international context for all official English-language documents: "University of Kaiserslautern-Landau". If this name is chosen without the possible alternative abbreviation "RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau", the abbreviation should be recognizable in the immediate context, e.g. by using the logo or the abbreviation in the text, e.g. "University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU)".
According to the decision of the Presidential Board (dated 25.01.2023), only the short name can be used for suitable purposes, e.g. scientific publications or public relations materials, in an international environment: "RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau". This name should only be used if it is recognizable from the immediate context or the general context that RPTU is a scientific institution or a university (see above).
