Central Office for Study Program Development (ZeSSt) in Landau
Development and further development of degree programmes
During ongoing study operations, it sometimes turns out that changes to existing degree programmes are necessary. These may concern module descriptions, examination regulations and capacity calculations and, if they involve significant changes to the concept or profile of a degree programme, may even require re-accreditation. In addition, there is sometimes a need to introduce a new degree programme or to discontinue an old one.
Who to contact
The point of contact for such issues is the Central Office for Degree Program Development (ZeSSt). The ZeSSt coordinates processes for the introduction, modification and discontinuation of degree programmes in Landau. A key points paper serves as the basis in each case, in which the applicants provide essential information on their introduction, modification or discontinuation project. The information contained therein is used to plan the respective process and is made available for information when committee decisions are made.
Templates for the key points paper and any other required documents can be found in the respective processes under "Instruments and documents".
Assistance for the development and further development of degree programmes
If you would like to make changes to a degree program or develop a degree programme, you will find some initial assistance here. The working aid "How and when can I change the module description?" provides an initial orientation on the interactions between the module handbook, the examination regulations and the capacity calculation of a degree programme. The formal framework requirements for the design of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs explain which requirements must be observed when designing degree programmes.
Finally, you can also take advantage of the advice offered by the University Didactics Office. Please refer in particular to the guidelines for formulating qualification objectives.
Below you can also find information on the specific procedure and the documents required for changes, introductions and discontinuations of degree programmes. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ZeSSt staff at any time.

Developing and introducing a new degree programme
The plan to introduce a new degree programme at Ladau must be notified to the ZeSSt as early as possible in the concept phase. Please send us the notification of the project by e-mail and attach basic information about the degree program initiative . Please note that a long lead time must be taken into account for the introduction of a degree programme.
The following documents must first be submitted to the ZeSSt:
Key points paper on the introduction of degree programmes (after prior consultation with ZeSSt)
Approving statement from the faculty council on the project
Approving statement on the project from any faculties / central institutions involved
For cooperations: Confirmation of participation from the cooperation partner(s)
If applicable, further information on the planned degree programme
The ZeSSt determines the next steps in the process once the key points paper has been submitted. The initiative is presented to the university management and the senate or local senate committee before the detailed preparation of the study program documents. Further information on the process can be found in the handout on the introduction of degree programmes.
Please note: A different procedure applies to the introduction of continuing education degree programmes. An overview can be found in the handout on the introduction of degree programmes.

Change a degree programme
If it becomes apparent during the course of degree programmes that changes to a degree programme are necessary, different change processes may arise depending on the type of change, including the need for subsequent re-accreditation. You can find an overview of which changes require which process steps and which process duration in the guidelines for the process flow for changes to degree programs.
If you are planning to make changes to a degree programme in Landau, you must notify the ZeSSt. Please take into account that the faculty offering the degree programme and, if necessary, other authorities involved in the change project must be involved in your planning. These may be
- Heads of other degree programmes in the case of polyvalent use of degree program content
- Central institutions whose services you use (e.g. KSB for key competencies)
- Other internal or external cooperation partners (e.g. contractual partners of other universities)
- Centers for teacher training
- Joint two-subject Bachelor's committee
For your planning, please also take into account that the implementation of the change will take some time depending on the scope and workload of the central offices.
Prior to reaccreditation, the ZeSSt will inform you about the possibility of making changes to the degree programme about a year in advance. An overview of when which degree programmes will be accredited can be found in the schedule of internal accreditation procedures 2017-2023.
The following documents must first be submitted to the ZeSSt to request a change:
Key points paper change of degree program
Approving statement from the faculty council on the project
Approving statement on the project from any bodies involved or affected by the changes
For teaching degree programs: E-mail confirmation (statement, if applicable) from the responsible Center for Teacher Education
The ZeSSt will check the nature of the planned change on the basis of your information and will then determine the next steps on a case-by-case basis. The procedure for change processes can be found in the handout "Introduction and change of degree programmes".

Cancel a degree programme
The initiative to discontinue a degree programme in Landau can come from various sources. When planning, all instances involved in the degree program (for examples, see Changes to degree programmes, Planning) must be involved in the project in advance.
When planning your timetable, please note that a Senate resolution on the discontinuation must be passed by November 30 of the year prior to the academic year of the planned discontinuation at the latest. Depending on the duration of the coordination and examinations required in advance, this results in a process duration of at least 18 months.
The following documents must first be submitted to the ZeSSt:
Key points paper for the discontinuation of degree programmes
Approving statement from the faculties on the project
Approving statement on the project from any faculties/institutions involved or affected by the changes
After registration with the ZeSSt, a capacity calculation of the effects of the suspension is first prepared and submitted to the university management for a decision. The further procedural steps are determined by the ZeSSt. The handout on the procedure for the discontinuation of degree programmes provides orientation on the further possible procedure.
