Top scores for TU Kaiserslautern in the international university ranking "U-Multirank”

The U-Multirank, initiated by the European Commission, has recently published the 2022 edition. Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK) is one of 106 German universities included and receives top scores, especially in the area of knowledge transfer. Across all 30 performance indicators evaluated, TUK scores excellent seven times and good seven times.

U-Multirank compares the performances of universities in the five dimensions of academic activity – teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement – and assigns grades based on topic-specific performance indicators. This way, U-Multirank enables a differentiated but at the same time clear comparison of universities based on individual criteria.

With 5 top scores, TUK is rankend strongest in knowledge transfer which results in a top ten position in this performance dimension comparing the scores of German universities. The grade “excellent” was assigned to performance indicators such as income from private sources, co-publications with industrial partners, spin-offs, publications cited in patents and income from continuous professional development. This shows that the TUK makes knowledge and technologies accessible in an outstanding manner and, on the other hand, that ideas and needs from economy and society likewise find their way into TUK’s teaching and research portfolio. For two further indicators - proportion of international academic staff and external research income - TUK also ranks "excellent".

U-Multirank is developed and implemented on the initiative of the European Commission by an independent consortium led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) from Leiden University, both in the Netherlands, as well as the Foundation for Knowledge and Development (Fundación CYD) in Spain. The first U-Multirank ranking was the 2014 edition. Meanwhile, the current edition of the ranking includes 2,202 institutions from 96 countries and a series of 30 subject rankings.
